Last Thursday, ahead of the Remembrance weekend, we were delighted to be able to join other local businesses to carry out gardening maintenance and clearance work at the nationally-renowned Brookwood Cemetery, organised by the Community Matters Partnership.
Armed with gloves and gardening tools we worked in both the sprawling “Actors’ Acre” and the picturesque Swedish plot to clear overgrown bushes, stubborn undergrowth and huge amounts of fallen leaves. Other volunteers cleared the Railway tunnel while a team of litter pickers collected 10 bags’ worth of rubbish.

Having not visited the site before we were overawed by the size and beauty of the place, even in November. It was also a delight to meet the regular volunteers, and apparently we completed about 3-4 weeks’ worth of work in only a day?
We look forward to joining the Community Matters Partnership and volunteering for many more days in the future.
